From Tromsø to Bodø

Summer program visiting Tromsø, Senja, Vesterålen, Lofoten and Bodø. The roads at Senja, Andøy and in Lofoten are classified as National Tourist Routes by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. Day 1:

Arrival in Tromsø and transfer to hotel. Evening excursion by cable car up to Mount Storsteinen (421m/1382ft) with fantastic view of Tromsø. In the Midnight Sun period, the cable car runs until past midnight.

Day 2:

Sightseeing in Tromsø including a visit at the Tromsdalen Church, also known as Ishavskatedralen (The Arctic Cathedral). Drive with sightseeing along the way towards the beautiful, idyllic island Senja, Norway's second largest island.

Day 3:

Enjoy a walk through Husøy center. Husøy is a just over 1 kilometer long and 500 feet wide island in the north of Senja. The island is connected with the outside world with a 300 meter long pier and the road. Everything is closely situated at Husøy; the shop, fish factory, school and cafe are all located within a 5 minute walk wherever one might be on the island. From Husøy we will drive on to meet the Senja Troll!

The Senja Troll was registered in Guinness Record Book in 1997. Height 17.96 meters in the sitting position and with a weight of 125.000 kg. Inside the troll stomach is an exciting adventure the world spread over two floors full of adventures for young and old, built on the old legends from Senja.

Ferry Gryllefjord - Andenes, approx. 2 hours. On this crossing, we might see whales and dolphins, if we are lucky!

Day 4:

Fishing and fish processing has been the main industries in Andøy, but the climate has also made it possible to farm. Defence has been an important part of society, and the air base was built with the help of funds from NATO. Andenes lighthouse is still a landmark, as it has been since 1859. We drive along the west side of Andøya. Here we find many gems, like the fishing village Bleik, rock formation Bukkekirka and Bjørnskinn. The road runs between the ocean and the mountains, through marshlands and picturesque small towns.

We set aside some time in Sortland to walk around on our own. The town of Sortland might just be a bit more colorful than you think!

Day 5:

Guided tour at the Hurtigruten Museum and boarding the Hurtigruten on Stokmarknes. Hurtigruten Stokmarknes - Svolvær, including The Trollfjord in Raftsundet, about 3.5 hours. The famous "Trollfjord battle" took place here for a little more than a century ago. This was a struggle between the fishermen in their small rowing boats and the owners of the larger steamships. The battle was later made immortal in Johan Bojer's book "The Last Viking".

Day 6:

Guided tour at Storvågan / SKREI Experience Center (Lofoten Aquarium, Gallery Espolin and Lofoten Museum). Kabelvåg and Vågar was in the last century the most important fishing village in Lofoten. Here, King Øystein let build the first church in Lofoten, probably in the year 1103. He did also build rorbu cabins on the Lofoten Islands around year 1120.

Time to spend on your own in the fishing village Henningsvær with its many unique and small niche shops and cafeterias, the Gallery Lofoten House w/multimedia display, center of art Kaviar Factory, candlemakers, photo exhibitions, pottery and glass production. And so much more...

Day 7:

Guided tour at the Lofotr Viking Museum. In the Iron Age, there were 10-15 the chieftain's seats in Northern Norway, and one of these was situated at Borg in Lofoten. Here is the only place that a chieftain's dwelling is proven. Lofotr Viking Museum is an impressive reconstruction of the main house, which is found from the Viking era.

We will make several stops along the way, to see white sandy beaches, arctic peaks, small fishing villages and other typical Lofoten scenery. A day to enjoy!

Ferry across Vestfjorden, Moskenes - Bodø, about 3 hours. If weather permits, we can see the Lofoten mountains from east to west on this trip. This chain of mountain is also called "The Lofoten wall".

Day 8:

Guided tour at the National Norwegian Aviation Museum. The exhibition premises, which cover over 10,000 m2, house civilian aircrafts, military aircrafts, and helicopters. You can experience the exciting history of aviation at close quarters. See famous and illustrious military aircraft such as the Spitfire, CF-104 Starfighter, Ju 88 and the U-2 spy plane, or workhorses and passenger aircraft like the Ju 52, Twin Otter and F.28.

Transfer to airport and departure Bodø.
