Helgeland and Lofoten

Kystriksveien has frequently been called the world's most beautiful tourist route. Combined with Lofoten this is a journey filled with experiences and impressions. Along the way we will pass the geographical center of Norway and the Arctic Circle.

Day 1:

The tour starts in Trondheim or at Trondheim Airport Værnes. The first stage brings us to Steinkjer, a municipality situated northeast of the Beitstad Fjord in the northern part of the Trondheim Fjord. We arrange a nice "get acquainted" lunch at the Best Western Park Hotel Tingvold. The hotel has a main building built in 1892, a distinctive home environment and a delicious Norwegian cuisine.

The hotel is known for its special lounges located on an old ship setting from the Viking era, of which 38 stones still are left out in the garden. We continue our trip through beautiful countryside to Brønnøysund (ferry Holm - Vennesund). Situated just outside Brønnøysund is the famous rock formation Torghatten, known for its characteristic 15 m wide hole. Accommodation at Thon Hotel Brønnøysund.

Day 2:

Today we offer a guided tour and lunch at Hildurs Urterarium in Brønnøysund. The herb garden with over 200 plants is a magnificent sight. Here are separate departments for herbs, medicinal herbs, poisonous plants and a biblical garden. Roses, perennials and rhododendrons in abundance form a colorful border around the farm.

We continue our trip to the town of Mosjøen where we recommend a nice stroll through "Sjøgata" the north of Norway longest continual street of preserved wooden houses from the 1800's. To this day still a living, thriving part of Mosjøen. The buildings and the river, combined with the 818 meters high Øyfjellet extending over, gives a unique atmosphere. The day ends in Sandnessjøen with accommodation at the hotel named after the famous mountain range Syv Søstre (The Seven Sisters).

Day 3:

Via Nesna (ferry Levang - Nesna) we drive up on Saltfjellet and to the Arctic Circle. The Arctic Circle Centre is a natural stop for all travelers along the road. The center is characterized by its unique architecture that has been adapted to the natural surroundings and the Arctic Circle goes right through the building. Lunch is served in the center's café.

We take the time to stretch our legs before we depart the Saltfjellet and continue down to Saltstraumen. We spend the night at Hotel Saltstraumen, with the world's strongest maelstrom right outside our windows.

Day 4:

We'll take the ferry over the Vestfjord to Lofoten (Bodø – Moskenes). On a clear day we can see the "Lofoten wall", a range of rugged mountains that stretch from east to west. Upon arrival in Lofoten we drive to idyllic Sørvågen for lunch, pass through the fishing villages Å, Reine and Ramberg to Leknes. Accommodation at Best Western Lofoten Hotel.

Day 5:

This morning we visit the fishing village Nusfjord. Nusfjord is one of the oldest and best preserved fishing villages with a long tradition of fishing in Lofoten. The village is a jewel box full of history, a living museum. When we walk around the village we find a power station, sawmill, smithy, fishermen's cottages (rorbuer), different boat houses, a atmospheric cod liver oil factory and a store that is a museum in itself.

In the evening we visit the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg, the greatest chieftain's seat ever found from Viking era. The 83 meter-long reconstructed longhouse located next to the original site refers to a powerful Viking chieftain. The main house is richly decorated and has an impressive architecture, with magnificent views and history. Here we get a tour by the museum's own Viking guide. This evening we are invited to a real Viking feast!

The dim lighting together with scent of tar and fire creates an exciting atmosphere. The Vikings at Borg carry forward the best they have of food and drinks when guests come from far away - like tasty Lofoten lamb and wild boar. Seasoned with local herbs and cooked with great care by the lady of the house - from this meal nobody leaves hungry. One glass of mead (honey wine) per person is included. We return to the Best Western Lofoten Hotel in Leknes.

Day 6:

We are traveling eastward, to the fishing village Henningsvær. Here we visit the permanent exhibition in Lofoten House Gallery. The exhibition presents the most important painting collection from the Golden Age of North Norwegian artists such as Ulving, Juul, Harr, Sinding, Holmboe, Berg and many more.

And we will be shown the multimedia show "The Magic islands" which portrays Lofoten through all seasons, the Lofoten fishing, nature and people. Nearest neighbor is Henningsvær Bryggehotell. Here we are served probably the best fish soup in the world while enjoying the views of the inner harbor of Henningsvær. Everything has its end, even this stay. So we drive further east. The tour ends in Harstad, Narvik or at Harstad / Narvik Airport Evenes.

Suitable for bus groups from May to September. The program can be customized according to the group's own needs and desires, and combined with additional flight, train, Hurtigruten or bus transport.
